South Suburban Cancer Center Announces Joint Venture with Vantage Oncology

HAZEL CREST, IL (October 4th, 2007) – As part of its continued efforts to provide innovative radiation treatment to cancer patients of Chicago’s southern suburbs, South Suburban Cancer Center, located on the campus of Advocate South Suburban Hospital, recently announced that it has entered into a joint venture agreement with El Segundo, California-based Vantage Oncology, Inc.  Dr. Jay Ginde, Medical Director of South Suburban cancer Center, and his associates and staff will remain the provider of radiation therapy services at the center, under the existing license with the Illinois Department of Nuclear Safety.  Vantage Oncology, Inc., which operates state-of-the-art radiation oncology centers throughout the United States, brings significant outpatient radiation therapy management and marketing experience as well as capital, which has enabled the center to upgrade its current technology, streamline its operations and expand its community outreach.

“We are excited about this joint venture with Vantage Oncology because it provides us with an outstanding opportunity to expand our radiation oncology services,” said Jay Ginde, M.D., Medical Director. “This management partnership demonstrates our continued commitment towards enhancing South Suburban Cancer Center’s radiation oncology program and ensures that our serviced communities will have access to the most precise and sophisticated cancer treatments available.”

“The center opened its doors in 1989 and is accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, Inc. (AAAHC).  New technologies such as Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) and Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) allow us to deliver higher doses of targeted radiation to the tumor sites, while avoiding critical structures and limiting complications and side effects to out patients.  IMRT is a computer-based method of planning for and delivery of non-uniform intensities of radiation beams.  The technology delivers a higher dose of more precise radiation to the tumor and the IGRT technology positions the patient prior to the delivery of each radiation treatment,” said Dr. Ginde.  “With the multi-disciplinary approach to treating malignancies today, our technology will undoubtedly result in optimal results for our patients.”

“The management joint venture between South Suburban Cancer Center and Vatatge Oncology will provide patients of Chicago’s south and southwest suburbs with access to state-of-the-art radiation therapy services,” said Michael T. Fiore, CEO of Vantage Oncology. “In combination with the experts that can effectively educate and treat the patients who have entrusted us with their health.”
