Vantage Oncology Supports The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Light The Night Walk Fundraiser
Riverside, CALIF., November 12, 2008 – Vantage Oncology reaches out through a $1,000 sponsorship to support The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) annual Light The Night fundraising walk. The money donated will be used towards funding programs for cancer patients as well as research toward finding a cure for blood cancers.
This is the first year that Vantage Oncology, with four radiation treatment centers in the Inland Empire, located in San Bernardino, Riverside, Wildomar and Temecula, has participated in the Light The Night Campaign. Jo Anne Ghazi, Regional Marketing Manager for Vantage Oncology, was invited to the corporate kick-off and found that the mission of LLS “tugs on your heart strings.” It wasn’t until after deciding to involve Vantage Oncology with Light The Night that Ghazi discovered two employees had personal connections with blood cancers.Light The Night is LLS’ annual evening fundraising walk held between the months of September and October. Each year thousands of walkers work together to raise money to support The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The night of the Walk is a time to celebrate what has been achieved. The Walk is a family-friendly event with music, food, and a fun for the kids. Those who attend, walk together at dusk, holding illuminated balloons – red for supporters, white for survivors, and a single gold balloon to represent those who have lost their battle to cancer.
"We walk because we care—we walk in memory of those who cared for us. Light The Night not only raises millions of dollars for research, but it helps promote valuable services provided by The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and increases our awareness so that we can continue to help more men, women, and children in their fight against cancer," comments Doug Vogel, Director of Light The Night.
It is important to understand that there is a need for research for blood cancers. The survival rate of the most common form of leukemia in children has increased from 4% in 1960 to 85% in 1999. While this is a huge leap, there still isn’t a cure.
