Evansville Cancer Center Director Honored By the American Academy of Dermatology

Robin Lawrence Receives Third Consecutive Gold Triangle Award for
Raising Awareness about Skin Cancer and Melanoma

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – For the third consecutive year, Robin Lawrence, Director of Marketing of the Evansville Cancer Center in Evansville, Ind., will be awarded the American Academy of Dermatology’s Gold Triangle Award, to be presented on Friday, February 1, 2008 in San Antonio, TX. She will be recognized for her commitment and tireless efforts towards increasing awareness about skin cancer and melanoma.

Ms. Lawrence, who has worked with the Evansville Cancer Center for five years, has dedicated her professional career and personal time to educating the community about various cancer-related issues. After being diagnosed with melanoma in March 2002, she made it her mission to share with others her own personal experiences, so they too can become more informed about preventing skin cancer.

“I am truly honored to be recognized by the American Academy of Dermatology,” said Ms. Lawrence, who initiated and coordinated free skin cancer screenings in partnership with local board certified dermatologists and The American Academy of Dermatology. “As a cancer survivor and employee at the Evansville Cancer Center, I am afforded personal and professional opportunities to help others understand the importance of protecting themselves from skin cancer. My goal is to educate children, teenagers and their parents about the dangers of skin cancer before it is too late. Furthermore, by working with local schools and speaking to students, I hope we can begin to develop sun safety policies to protect our youth from this deadly disease.”

In addition to working with the Evansville Cancer Center, Lawrence contributes her time and expertise to many non-profit organizations including: the American Cancer Society; Cancer Care Options, Inc.; Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure; and Albion Fellows Bacon Center (a shelter for abused women).

“The contributions Robin makes to our community and patients are absolutely amazing,” said Jon D. Frazier, M.D., Medical Director of Evansville Cancer Center. “She brings her talents to our Cancer Center and has become a pillar in our community. Thanks to her vigilance and generosity, Robin has helped countless numbers of patients overcome their fears about cancer, so that they can become more proactive about prevention.”
