SAMUEL HELLMAN, M.D. APPOINTED TO VANTAGE ONCOLOGY BOARD OF DIRECTORS
EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (April 27, 2005) - Samuel Hellman, M.D has been appointed to Vantage Oncology's Board of Directors. The El Segundo-based Vantage Oncology Inc. is a developer and operator of state-of-the-art radiation oncology centers.
Dr. Hellman, who has earned a reputation as one of the nation's leading cancer researchers and educators, currently serves as an Attending Physician at the University of Chicago Hospital and A.N. Pritzker Distinguished Service Professor in the Department of Radiation and Cellular Oncology at the University of Chicago.
An accomplished educator, Dr. Hellman has served as the Dean of The Division of Biological Sciences and The Pritzker School of Medicine and Vice President for the Medical Center at the University of Chicago. He began his academic career as an Assistant Professor for the Department of Radiology at Yale University School of Medicine. He moved to Harvard Medical School in 1964 to be the founding Director of the Joint Center for Radiation Therapy and was later appointed as Alvin T. and Viola D. Fuller-American Cancer Society Professor and Chairman of the Department of Radiation Therapy. After leaving Harvard, Dr. Hellman became Physician-in-Chief of Memorial-Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York.

Dr. Hellman has participated in the work of a number of prestigious committees throughout his 40 year career. He was previously a member of the Scientific Advisory Board at St. Jude Childrenfs Research Hospital and the Board of Directors for the American Society of Therapeutic Radiologists. He has also served as Chairman for the Board of Scientific Counselors, Division of Cancer Treatment, National Cancer Institute, Chairman for the Board of Directors for the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology and on the Board of Governors for Agronne National Laboratory.
During his career, Dr. Hellman has been widely recognized with numerous honors and awards, including: Richard and Hinda Rosenthal Foundation Award for Clinical Research of American Association for Cancer Research; Gold Medal from the American Society of Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology; Award for Outstanding Contributions to Cancer Care from the Association of Community Cancer Centers; and the David A. Karnofsky Award for the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
